shiatsu massage

What is shiatsu?

Shiatsu comes from the Japanese words shi, meaning finger, and atsu, meaning pressure. It is a Japanese form of hands-on therapy based on both traditional and modern physiological and anatomical theory.

Shiatsu refers to the use of fingers and palms to apply pressure to particular points on the body, in order to correct imbalances, maintain and promote health, and contribute to the healing of specific illnesses. Practitioners use shiatsu as both diagnostic and therapeutic technique, as a skilled therapist will use his hands first to detect problems, and then to correct them.

What does shiatsu massage do for me?

Shiatsu practitioners promote the recovery of illness, and its prevention, by stimulating the body's immune system, natural healing power, and meridian system. As both diagnostic and therapeutic tool, shiatsu can help patients with a wide variety of health and wellness concerns.

How does shiatsu massage work?

The shiatsu practitioner will first identify (both through diagnostic conversation and a diagnostic massage) where the patient's chi flows freely and where it is obstructed. Once these points of obstruction along the meridians are located, the healer will use finger-hand pressure to stretch and release the pathways.
